Strength & Balance classes

Our FREE Strength for Seniors sessions cater for older and frailer adults to improve their mobility and confidence. Those younger are also most welcome to attend.

Michelle is a qualified OTAGO instructor, meaning she is able to teach later life training to allow older people to avoid falls, maintain good health and remain independent.

For those wondering, the qualification is named after Otago University, New Zealand where the programme was created.

Falls after the age of 65 can be traumatic, and cause pain and loss of autonomy, but clinical trials have shown that with the Otago programme, the number of falls in older people is reduced, and the injuries from those falls is also reduced.

The programme has the greatest effect in high-risk groups: those aged over 80 years of age and those with a previous fall.

Our sessions last 45 minutes each and are held at:

  • Tuesdays at 10am, in Hardingstone Village Hall, Hardingstone (back room)
  • Wednesdays at 11:10am, in Wootton Community Centre, Wootton
  • Thursdays at 10am, in Hardingstone Village Hall, Hardingstone (back room) and at 2:00pm, in Milton Malsor Village Hall, Milton Malsor
  • Fridays at 10am, in Abbey Centre Baptist Church, East Hunsbury and at 1:10pm in Wootton Community Centre, Wootton
