{"id":58,"date":"2025-10-13T14:31:45","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T14:31:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stepforwardwithlewiscic.co.uk\/?page_id=58"},"modified":"2026-06-29T14:51:33","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T14:51:33","slug":"strength-for-seniors","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/stepforwardwithlewiscic.co.uk\/index.php\/strength-for-seniors\/","title":{"rendered":"Strength &amp; Balance classes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our FREE Strength for Seniors sessions cater for older and frailer adults to improve their mobility and confidence.&nbsp;Those younger are also most welcome to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Michelle is a qualified OTAGO instructor, meaning she is able to teach later life training to allow older people to avoid falls, maintain good health and remain independent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For those wondering, the qualification is named after&nbsp;Otago University, New Zealand where the programme was created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Falls after the age of 65 can be traumatic, and cause pain and loss of autonomy, but clinical trials have shown that with the Otago programme, the number of falls in older people is reduced, and the injuries from those falls is also reduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme has the greatest effect in high-risk groups: those aged over 80 years of age and those with a previous fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:34px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Strength and balance sessions: Falls prevention and confidence for older adults\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AWZAxSX5LMA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:44px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our sessions last 45 minutes each and are held at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tuesdays&nbsp;at 10am,&nbsp;in Hardingstone Village Hall, Hardingstone (back room)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wednesdays<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>at 11:10am,&nbsp;in Wootton Community Centre, Wootton<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thursdays at&nbsp;10am, in Hardingstone Village Hall, Hardingstone (back room)&nbsp;and at 2:00pm,&nbsp;in Milton Malsor Village Hall, Milton Malsor&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fridays&nbsp;at 10am,&nbsp;in Abbey Centre Baptist Church, East Hunsbury&nbsp;and at 1:10pm&nbsp;in Wootton Community Centre, Wootton<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are interested or have a family member, friend or neighbour who is, then please email me at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:stepforwardwithlewis@gmail.com?subject=Later%20life%20training\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stepforwardwithlewis@gmail.com<\/a>&nbsp;for further details.
